Each year I take the opportunity to visit with groups of graduating seniors about their four years at Ohio Wesleyan University. I typically begin the conversations by asking the students to tell me about what parts of the OWU experience they have valued the most and where they feel their lives have been impacted in the most substantial ways. Invariably, each of these conversations leads immediately to talk about the impact of the OWU faculty. Our faculty members are the heart and soul of Ohio Wesleyan. They have great passion for their disciplines and even greater passion for their students. They are simply the best.
When our students talk about their OWU teachers, I hear stories of courses that opened the window of a whole new world of ideas. I hear stories of faculty members who provide wise counsel, whether in refining a term paper, preparing for an exam, exploring an opportunity for a semester abroad, considering a career choice or the best graduate school option, or working through a personal challenge. I hear stories of animated conversation and debate in the classroom. I hear about working with faculty members on their research and travelling with faculty members to academic conferences. I hear about courses that include international travel for students with a faculty member, including a semester in Tanzania, a summer in Bolivia, or a spring break in Costa Rica, Mexico, or Japan.
At OWU you will benefit from faculty members who are master teachers, world-class scholars, and deeply interested in your academic success. They will inspire you. They will encourage you. And they will change you. You will be given a wonderful menu of courses from which to select. You will be challenged to connect classroom theory with real-world practical experience. Your life will change because of these faculty members. And as a result, you will have the opportunity to change the world.
